Through a planned programme of activities, Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) and Employability skills, John Spendluffe Technology College seeks to help all students take their place as suitably qualified and responsible adults within society. The focus is upon career and option choice, raising the aspirations and achievement of individual students and equipping them with skills, attitudes, knowledge and understanding as a foundation for managing their lifelong career and learning.
We are commitment to:
• Providing a planned programme of activities to which all students from Years 7–11 are entitled which will help them to plan and manage their careers
• Providing IAG which is impartial, unbiased and is based on the students individual needs
• Ensuring that our programme follows local, regional and national frameworks for good practice and other relevant guidance.
• Raising aspirations and sharing opportunities with our young people
In keeping with our commitment to provide students with outstanding careers guidance and tailored support when choosing their next steps after JSTC, we will also now be using Unifrog; an award-winning, online destinations platform. All students in Years 7, 8, 9, 10 &11 now have access to this website.
Unifrog is the universal destinations platform and is designed to support learners in making the most informed decisions about their futures and has a range of tools that are suitable for all year groups. Each student has their own account where they can explore all the career and next step options available to them and find information on everything from managing their workload to writing a winning CV. Students have access to a wide variety of video and written content, and interactive quizzes and tests. The Unifrog Career Journey is embedded in the PSHE curriculum as well as additional opportunities planned throughout the year including workplace speakers and guests, trips and visits to higher education providers and industry trips, Work experience and our annual Careers Fair.
Our independent careers advisor tracks the work carried out in school and its impact through the monitoring of the next steps and application processes of our Y11 students. All students have career interviews and are supported in making relevant applications to post-16 providers. The Unifrog platform records and monitors all student’s interactions with
Follow up interviews and telephone calls are made – even after students have completed their examinations in June – to ensure they have secured a place for the next stage of their education. JSTS is proud to advise parents that in recent years 100% of our students have been guided to successfully enter post-16 courses following their time at JSTC.
